NAMING OF CO-ORDIANTION SPHERE
(i)
Ligands are named first
(ii)
Ligands are named in alphabetical order,
regardless of the charge and number of each
(iii)
Central metal atom is named last, followed by
oxidation state with in parenthesis
Note
In writing the formula of a
complex ion, the symbol of the central metal atom is placed first. It is
followed by the names of the ionic ligands in alphabatical order, then neutral
ligands in alphabatic order. The formula of the whole complex ion is enclosed
in square brackets.
