PERIODIC CLASSIFICATION AND PERIODIC TABLE
The arrangement of elements in a systematic manner, in order to correlate
their properties is
called periodic classification. And the resulting table is called periodic table.
NEWLAND’S OCTAVES
In 1864, an English
chemist, Newland arranged elements in order of their increasing atomic masses.
He found that
“
Every eighth element had properties in common with first one.”
Mendeleeve periodic law states
If elements are
arranged in ascending order of their atomic masses, then elements having
similar properties appeared at regular intervals.”
