BORAX BEAD TEST

BORAX BEAD TEST

It is used to detect colored radicals like Cu2+, Fe2+, Mn2+, Co2+, Cr3+ and Ni2+
Procedure

Make a loop of clean Pt wire. Heat it in a flame to remove impurities. Take a little borax on hot loop and heat again. Borax will first swell up and then melts to give a colourless, glassy bead. Put some compound on the bead and heat again first in oxidising flame and then in reducing flame.
